Harvey Wallbanger
This modern classic sip was invented in Hollywood in the 1950s but became a fave in the 70s after the former marketing director of McKesson Imports (which imported Galliano) created the Harvey Wallbanger character (a goofy cartoon surfer) and a full campaign to market the drink. The campaign worked and the drink was popular through the 90s.
It’s essentially a Screwdriver (Vodka and OJ) made with a floater of Galliano - an herbaceous Italian liqueur with notes of anise and vanilla. I’m usually not a fan of anise-forward anything, but I liked this. The Galliano works well with the OJ and gives it a flavorful (and boozy) lift.
Plus, it’s super easy to make. There are only 3 ingredients and you don’t need a shaker, you just build it in the glass.
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz Vodka
- 4 oz Orange Juice
- 0.5 oz Galliano L’Autentico
- Orange slice and cherry for garnish
Directions:
1. Fill a highball class with ice
2. Add vodka and orange juice, then stir to combine
3. Float Galliano on top by pouring over the back of a bar spoon
4. Garnish with an orange slice and cherry
Cheers and enjoy!
