Italian Espresso Martini

This Italian spin on the classic Espresso Martini calls for Amaro Averna in place of vodka, coffee liqueur, and espresso.

I found the recipe on Liquor.com and it was created by Nicholas Boden, head bartender at Tavernonn Italian Kitchen at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Missouri.

The subtle bitterness, sweet citrus, and caramel notes of the Amaro Averna work really well with the espresso. It’s also gives the drink a sort of cola-like taste which I really like.

Makes 1 serving

Ingredients:

- 1 oz chilled espresso

- 1.5 oz Amaro Averna

- 0.5 oz coffee liqueur (I used @kahlua )

- 3 coffee beans for garnish

Directions:

1. Chill a coupe glass with ice water and set aside.

2. Add the espresso, Averna and Kahlúa to a cocktail shaker.

3. Add ice and shake vigorously to foam the espresso.

4. Discard ice water from the glass.

5. Double strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.

6. Garnish with coffee beans.

Cheers!
