Frida Margarita

I created this Frida Kahlo inspired cocktail for Cinco de Mayo. It’s made with fresh strawberries, hibiscus, and Lillet Blanc.

The hibiscus represents her love for flowers, her native Mexico, and its culture. The Lillet Blanc, a French wine-based aperitif with a citrusy/fruity taste, replaces triple sec and is a link to France. This is where she became the first Mexican artist to be featured in the Louvre.

It’s the prefect spring or summer cocktail!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Tequila

  • 1/2 oz Lillet Blanc

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • 1/2 oz Hibiscus syrup*

  • 3-4 fresh strawberries, halved

  • Garnish: Coarse salt, edible flowers, or lime wedge

Directions:

1) Muddle strawberries in a cocktail shaker

2) Add remaining ingredients. Fill with ice and shake

3) Strain into a salt/flower rimmed glass with ice

4) Garnish with lime wedge

* Hibiscus simple syrup: Add 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup of hibiscus flowers to a pot. Steep on low heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Let syrup cool before use.

Cheers and enjoy!
